"The Shepherd's Staff" is the new name for our newsletter for SVPC.  We hope you like it and pray that it will bring honor and glory to our Lord as we minister in the McCalla pasture.
In Biblical times a shepherd used a staff in several ways: as protection against animal attack on his flock, as a means of guiding the flock in dangerous climbs and descents to the good pastureland, as an instrument of rescuing a sheep in danger or tending to strays and as a means of determining the count of the flock at the end of the day.  He would place it low in the doorway of the sheepfold and cause the sheep in single file to step over the staff as he counted them. That is the call God has given Shepherd of the Valley in this community: protecting believers by proclaiming the truth of Christ, granting guidance to them by teaching them Christ, reaching out to rescue those who tend to stray and abiding by the standards we have professed in Christ by yielding to the Shepherd's call to be counted as part of his flock.
